This week I bring you a real classic, THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD, it was made in 1951 and remains one of the most talked about sci-fi movies in history. The story is pretty simple, a group of artic research scientist finds a UFO frozen in the ice, there for centuries. They try to thaw it out, but destroy it instead. They also find a frozen fright in the ice, a huge alien creature which is made frm vegetable matter.

When the overgrown veggie wakes up and turns out not to be friendly (big surprise), it becomes a war of worlds between the Miltary who wants to defend themselves and kill the walking rubarb and the scientist who walks to talk to it.

What makes this a true classic and people who've seen it may not even know this, but the creature is played by GUNSMOKE's James Arness. A masterpiece of make up effects hid his face so well I couldn't tell. For a true sci-fi classic, check out THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD.
